There he experiences many strange and funny things and hears some wonderful sounds as the
orchestra rehearses and gives a concert. Maxi enjoys himself so much that he decides to stay in
the concert hall and see what happens the next day maximus cheese
The concert programme is based on the illustrated best-selling book by the principal flautist of the
Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir. The illustrations are by violist Þórarinn Már Baldursson, also a member of the ISO.
In the hour-long concert a shortened version of the story is told to an abridged Boléro, the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth and Copland’s
Fanfare for the Common Man as well as Maxi’s Song and the Icelandic all- time favourite “Á Sprengisandi” by Kaldalóns.

The narration is interwoven with all the sounds and music that go with the story; the musicians warming
up, tuning, rehearsing and finally playing the pieces.
Vladimir Ashkenazy, Conductor Laureate of the ISO, is patron of the project and has, along with ISO’s chief
conductor, Rumon Gamba, been instrumental in bringing this programme to completion.
Maximus Musicus has in the short time since the publicationof the book and the concert premier become a
well-loved character; as a result of his popularity, Icelandic children are now humming Ravel’s Bolero as they slip into dreamworld!
The CD has the voice of Queensland soprano, Elizabeth Smalley,
singing the immensely popular and catchy 'Maxi's Song '
