What a magnificent afternoon. The concert was superb and the venue with the vista of the lake is simply stunning.

Opera in the Amphitheatre - 2019

The stunning Greek-style amphitheatre, nestled beside Lake Macdonald in the beautiful Noosa Botanic Gardens provides a magnificent setting for our own annual outdoor opera concert on the Sunshine Coast. Having performed as the opening event for Ida Duncan and the Noosa Council back in the mid 90s, OPERATIF has a special connection with this unique venue.

Patrons can enjoy a picnic in the gardens before taking their seats for an afternoon of the best of Opera & Song. There is seating within the theatre but as construction is brick, a low cushion or picnic blanket is recommended.

A marvellous selection of greats from the realms of popular opera, musicals and Italian song await you.

Clear, well organised, wet weather plans are always in place and printed instructions, including directions to the wet weather alternative venue are provided with tickets. No matter the weather, ‘the show will go on!’

Spring 2019 ( dates & cast being announced early 2019 )

With soprano Jennifer Parish, baritone Stewart Cameron, pianist John Woods & special guests.

Programme will include music by Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Bizet, Mascagni and more !

Nigel Bland pianos provide a magnificent Yamaha concert grand for this event. The performance is given acoustically (ie without microphones and sound systems.) The artists perform in gowns and tails and for audience members watching the performance, looking past the stage columns to the beautiful lake behind, they could be anywhere in the world. There are excellent toilet facilities at the amphitheatre as well as disabled access and facilities. Bus groups are welcome to make this event a great day out. Buses and vehicles with disabled stickers receive priority parking, right near the venue.

Did you know ? The area where the amphitheatre and the magnificent Noosa Botanic Gardens now stand was once a rubbish dump! An vibrant and energetic woman, the late Ida Duncan, had the vision for what could be in this naturally beautiful location. Inspiring others, Ida worked with local volunteers, garden club members and Council to see her dream realised in the theatre completed in 1994. OPERATIF! had the honour of opening it with its first concerts.

Now, where once lay old car bodies, tyres, tins and bottles, we have a very unique, stunning venue with beautiful lakeside gardens for the whole community to enjoy. Thank you Ida!
